Next Character and First Minigame

Welcome back everyone! As you can see from the image above, the winner of the 0.3.0 Character Poll is the boss-lady herself: Bridgette!

For her, you'll need to do a bit better than just to have a willingness to fool around during work hours.

That's where the first of many minigames will come into play.

Here's the work in progress of the "Gene Repair" minigame, which will be accessible in the lab during the work day. The goal of the game is to match the broken base-pairs by pulling from the stock at the top right. If you select a correct basepair, the genes will lock together and the sequence will progress, but you'll have to be careful as the scanning ring will check the pair, and if it's not valid, you'll lose points! Based on how well you do here, your intelligence stat will improve, and other members of the team may even like you a bit more (especially your Boss,    -wink- -wink-, -nudge- -nudge-)!

As you can see, the UI is a little bit on the... missing side, but I'm working on getting that put together. My first and primary concern is to get it working first, and then make it look nice later. I started making some parts look good at first but quickly realized that if I couldn't make it work, the art would have to get scrapped, so I'm glad I paused and switched to focusing on the functionality first.

Some other things that I'd like to get added for 0.3.0 is a proper stats panel (since your intelligence stat will actually be changing going forward), and that may also allow me to set up character profiles for the ladies which should let you know vaguely where you stand with them. Eventually that will also include hints for their relationship paths but that's still a ways off. As for the minigame itself, for this release it will likely just be the first phase of the game, but further on the difficulty (and the rewards) will increase (if you choose) and that will earn better rewards but will come with restrictions like a smaller stock size, no symbols/shapes, or a smaller working window (effectively like the image above where you need to solve what's up first in order to not lose any points).

Anyways it is ending up being a good deal more difficult to put together than I expected, but it is coming along generally smoothly and slow progress is better than no progress.

Next time, I'll be sure to make a bit simpler minigame -_-

If you have any ideas for the minigame (or future minigames) comment below and let us know.

But for now, it's back to the grind. See ya later!

Some kind of Diner Dash/Restaurant minigame with Summer seems fitting!

Ooh, I like that!
